Chasing big speed on unconventional machines is considered to be a big achievement for many automotive enthusiasts. Jake Sherbrook’s recent video documented his attempt to push his highly modified Yamaha Banshee past the 100 mph mark. The central project focused on wringing maximum velocity from Jake’s nitrous-equipped Banshee. According to Jake, the Banshee project’s goal is “if we can get this thing to do 100 miles per hour,” he stated.
After some initial 300-foot draggy passes to establish a baseline (achieving a quick 4.12 seconds on the first run), Jake set about optimizing the gearing for a top-end blast. However, the high-speed attempt on his father’s runway hit an unexpected and critical snag. After a promising run where the Banshee felt strong but got hot quickly, Jake discovered, “dude there’s zero ammo in this thing,” referring to a complete lack of coolant in the radiator.
This oversight unfortunately ended the day’s 100 mph quest before it truly began, with radar capturing a pass around 89 mph prior to the overheating.
“I wanted to break 100 miles per hour totally and didn’t totally fail and did a bunch of dry runs with no coolant which is absolutely wild,” Jake lamented, acknowledging the misstep but also noting the engine’s surprising resilience. The video also gave viewers a heads-up about Jake’s upcoming “Turf Wars” ATV/UTV grass drag event on June 7 at the Detroit Lakes Fairgrounds, for which he announced, “…every single one of you are invited…”
He also recapped some typically chaotic participation in a “Van Prix” event, which included humorous van modifications like a “vision box” for his co-driver Gavin and an unfortunate crash.Anyway, the quest for 100 miles per hour on Jake Sherbrook’s wild Yamaha Banshee hit a classic project-car hurdle this time – a crucial prep step overlooked.
Yet, the glimpses of its acceleration and the sheer audacity of the attempt show the raw power of these two-stroke ATVs when built for outright speed.
Jake’s ongoing project, with its combination of ambitious targets and very real-world setbacks, captures the unpredictable and often relatable journey of chasing records on a unique machine.
